An introduction to zavi james

Hi – it felt fitting to introduce myself to everyone outside of my books. I’m Zavi, a Welsh indie author with a love for the darker side of life. I was born and raised in a small coastal city and grew up with a deep love of the beach and the mountains.

My love for writing started in primary school. The earliest stories that I remember writing were to do with meerkats and witches. As I grew older, I dabbled in poetry and took up spoken word and have been lucky enough to work with some amazing projects over the years.

Despite that, I had a rocky relationship studying English at A-level and fell asleep in most of my classes. I passed the course but decided to do a BSc and then a PhD in biology. Seven years of studying science and I never looked at writing again. I was happy to read stories that others had created. I’ve been an avid reader from a young age with fantasy topping my list of genres. Something about the world building and the chance of meeting different creatures always sucked me in and kept me up late.

In 2018, I wound up in hospital after severe blood loss from ulcerative colitis. I spent months bedridden and by the time I was back up on my feet I realised that I wanted more than my day to day routine that I’d sank into. With a little bit of courage, I started to post stories to the community section of an app and found that people took an interest in the tales I told. That was back in July 2019 and now I’ve embarked on the journey of self-publishing. It’s a scary prospect but life’s too short to live in what ifs.

On this website, you’ll find me chronicling my writing, sharing book info, reviews and recommendations as well as interviews with other authors and people in the book/self-publishing community.
